Amrita Rao, born on June 7, 1981, in Mumbai, India, is an Indian actress who predominantly works in Hindi cinema. She was raised in a traditional Konkani family and attended Canossa Convent Girls School and later graduated from Sophia College with a degree in Psychology. Amrita Rao started her acting career in the early 2000s and quickly gained recognition for her roles in Bollywood films.
She made her acting debut in the 2002 film “Ab Ke Baras,” but it was her role in the romantic comedy “Ishq Vishk” (2003) opposite Shahid Kapoor that brought her widespread acclaim and established her as a promising talent in the industry. The film earned her the Filmfare Best Female Debut Award.
Following the success of “Ishq Vishk,” Amrita Rao went on to star in several successful films including “Main Hoon Na” (2004), “Masti” (2004), “Vivah” (2006), and “Welcome to Sajjanpur” (2008). Her portrayal of Poonam in “Vivah,” directed by Sooraj Barjatya, garnered her critical acclaim and established her as one of Bollywood’s leading actresses known for her girl-next-door persona and natural acting skills.
Throughout her career, Amrita Rao has worked across various genres, ranging from romantic comedies to social dramas. She has also appeared in a few Telugu and Tamil films.
